Conserve water, public urged as heat, lack of rain drain dams

THE federal government on Tuesday advised the general public– particularly Metro Manila citizens– to save water as dam levels continue to drop due to the effect of the El Niño phenomenon and the dry season.

El Niño Task Force spokesperson, Presidential Communications Assistant Secretary Joey Villarama, stated that while Metro Manila was not yet experiencing a water crisis, the water level of Angat Dam, which provides more than 90 percent of Metro Manila’s drinkable water requirements, might drop even more since of increased intake, absence of rains and evaporation due to the heat.
