A follow up was constantly going to occur, though no one at the time would have envisioned a scenario where superhero motion pictures were tanking, stars, throughout both DC and Marvel franchises triggering reputational damage for the brand names. The effect can definitely be felt in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, with Amber Heard’s Mera, having little screen time compared to the very first film.
