US crude oil inventories declined more than expected in the week ended Jan. 19, data from the US Energy Information Administration (EIA) showed. Gasoline inventories rose, while distillate stocks were down during the same period.
Crude oil stocks decreased by 9.2 million barrels by the end of the week, versus expectations of a decline of 1.2 million barrels.
Last week, the US gasoline stocks added 4.9 million barrels, while distillate stocks were down by about 1.4 million barrels.
