Spring in Saskatoon means melting snow and seasonal changes in the arts scene. This weekend, explore a variety of new shows and presentations, whether you’re drawn to visual art, cinema or educational experiences.

1 — See a new collaborative exhibition

Remai Modern hosts Live Editions: Jillian Ross Print Studio Party in the Connect Gallery on Friday at 7 p.m. Experience the gallery as a working print studio as it introduces the latest exhibition. With a new photogravure series and short films by William Kentridge, works by Jillian Ross Print and Prairie Braids by Wally Dion, the exhibition highlights the significance of Ross’s work as a collaborative printmaker. 2 — Learn how the art museum runs

Remai Modern hosts a special screening of Behind-the-scenes at Remai Modern: The Making of an Exhibition. A short documentary, the film follows museum staff as they navigate unique and wonderful artist requests while installing three different exhibitions for visitors to view and enjoy. The free screening is Saturday at 1 p.m. in the SaskTel Theatre. A Q&A with museum staff will follow. Learn more at remaimodern.org.

3 — Embrace teacher appreciation

Wanuskewin Heritage Park hosts Teacher Appreciation Weekend. Enjoy cultural programming, an artisan market, a powwow dance, raffle and door prizes, and teacher-focused information sessions on supporting Indigenous connections for students. Events run Saturday and Sunday, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Wanuskewin, with free admission for educators. Learn more at wanuskewin.com.

4 — Engage with an artist in a dance studio

Free Flow Dance Theatre’s Indigenous Artist in Residence through April is Métis theatre artist Bruce Sinclair. People of all ages and backgrounds are invited to visit during his studio time to learn and participate in a variety of creative events that include storytelling and Métis jigging with guest artist Scott Duffee. The next studio session is Sunday at 6:30 p.m. at Free Flow Dance Centre. Learn more at freeflowdance.com.

5 — Head out to Beaver Creek

The Beaver Creek Conservation Area and Interpretive Centre has switched to its summer hours. Enjoy a variety of outdoor activities including hiking and wildlife viewing or explore the Interpretive Centre. Beaver Creek is a designated ecosystem protection area and visitors are encouraged to stay on marked trails and avoid picking plants.
