The record-breaking heat continued to bake the national capital on Saturday.
By afternoon, Environment Canada was showing a temperature of 6 C for Ottawa, just shy of the all-time high of 7.2 C, set in 1966.

That followed Friday’s high of 9.4 C, which smashed the previous record of 7.4 C set in 1990.
Friday evening included widespread social media reports of thunder and lightning, although that wasn’t officially observed by Environment Canada.

But Winterlude organizers (and fans) were crossing their fingers that a return to more seasonal weather this coming week could put more winter in the annual winter festivities.
The change starts with an overnight drop to -4 C on Sunday night.
Monday’s expected to be cloudy with a 30-per-cent chance of flurries and a high temperature of 0 C. The low should be around -11 C.
Tuesday’s high is expected to be -3 C under mixed skies, and Environment Canada is forecasting a bone-chilling low of -15 C.
Temperatures are expected to stay in those ranges until Friday.
Winterlude ends Family Day, Monday, Feb. 19.
