Philantrophy Conference Advances Africa’s Development
African Philanthropy Conference

A conference aimed at advancing Africa’s development through philanthropy efforts has been organized by stakeholders in the philanthropy sector. The Fifth African Philanthropy Conference, scheduled for July 29 to August 2, 2024, at the Elephant Hills Resort in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, will facilitate dialogue and action within African philanthropy.

This year’s conference, themed “The Next Frontiers of African Philanthropy,” will assess and shape the continent’s philanthropic landscape. The event will be valuable to individuals and organizations committed to advancing development in Africa through philanthropy, including academia, donors, non-profits, government agencies, corporate entities, media, and other stakeholders.

The five-day conference will feature sessions on timely sub-themes, including restitution of African cultural heritage and reparations, climate justice, social justice and peacebuilding, and feminist philanthropy. The program will include panel discussions, workshops, and community outreach. Delegates will also enjoy activities hosted in Livingstone, Zambia.

Organizers have welcomed partners to contribute sessions and activities to the program, fostering collaboration. Prof. Bhekinkosi Moyo, Director of the Centre on African Philanthropy and Social Investment (CAPSI), described the conference as a collective response to dynamic changes in African philanthropy. “We look forward to welcoming thought leaders, practitioners, academics, and advocates to explore new terrains and chart a course for impactful action,” said Moyo, Chair of the conference secretariat.

The conference was conceptualized to promote philanthropy on the continent and set agendas for future interventions. Hosted annually, it attracts a growing number of delegates from around the world and encompasses diverse topics, including philanthropic responses to pertinent issues, technologies in philanthropy, community-centric approaches to giving, and innovative financing models for social impact.
