Oscar Pistorius, the double-amputee South African Olympian professional athlete who killed his sweetheart a years earlier, will be put on parole from Friday, the jails department stated.
Called the Blade Runner since of the carbon-fiber prosthetics he used when racing, Pistorius won 6 Paralympic gold medals. He shot Reeva Steenkamp in the restroom of his home in the capital, Pretoria, on Valentine’s Day in 2013, stating he misinterpreted her for a trespasser.
The High Court convicted him of murder in 2014 and imprisoned him for 6 years, with Judge Thokozile Masipa judgment that he was a newbie wrongdoer which justice would not be served by imprisoning him for longer. The list below year, the Supreme Court of Appeal ruled that he was guilty of murder and later on extended his sentence to 15 years, while taking into account the time he had actually currently served.
The jails department verified a Nov. 24 choice to give Pistorius parole and stated it would monitor him up until his sentence ends in 2029. His parole conditions need him to be home at particular times and not take in alcohol or other restricted compounds, it stated in a declaration.
