Data from the proposed budget revealed that: ₦36.6 billion was proposed for the University of Nigeria, Nsukka; ₦29.5 billion for the University of Calabar; ₦29.2 billion for Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria; ₦26.3 billion for Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka; ₦26.9 billion for the Nigerian Defence Academy; ₦24.2 billion for the University of Benin; and ₦23.8 billion for the University of Ibadan.

This has raised concerns about the government’s priorities, with some arguing that education should be a top priority. While the National Assembly plays a critical role in the country’s democracy, some argue that it’s not more important than the country’s education system.
