Mason Mount fires blunt message to Manchester United critics after Brentford goal

Mason Mount has delivered a message to his critics after finally getting off the mark for Manchester United. The former Chelsea player scored his first goal for United on Saturday night – in dramatic circumstances – following a £60million transfer to Old Trafford last summer.

Fit-again Mount was summoned from the substitutes bench for the final 20 minutes by Erik ten Hag and his strike well into stoppage-time looked to have given United victory. However, opponents Brentford fired straight back at the Gtech Community Stadium to earn themselves a point.

Kristoffer Ajer grabbed that goal to prevent Mount, 25, from making his mark with a winner. It was still a landmark moment for the England international, though, as he put injury and form struggles behind him to fire a message to any lingering doubters.

After the final whistle, Mount was particularly active on Instagram as he uploaded two images to his story. On the second one, it featured the attacking midfielder cupping his ears – presumably aimed at any critics – as he made his way over to the corner to celebrate with jubilant United fans who had made the trip.

That mood was dampened somewhat by Ajer, who scored from a set-piece, but Mount will be out to build on his first goal for the club. He has only totted-up 14 matches for United in all competitions so far his season, registering an assist against Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup as far back as September.

In a separate upload on to his main profile, Mount posted another two images and added a short caption thanking United fans. It read: “Mixed feelings, but I’m proud to celebrate my first goal for this club.

“We’ll continue to work on finishing the season on a high. Thank you for all the support.”
