The Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), situated in Ile-Ife, Osun State, is reeling from a terrible loss following the awful death of Mr. Olabode Olawuyi, a Veterinary Technologist who acted as the caretaker of the Zoological garden for over a years.

According to a news release provided by the University’s Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olarewaju, the regrettable occurrence took place on Monday, 19th February, 2024.

Mr. Olawuyi was assaulted by a 9-year-old male lion while he was performing his tasks of feeding the animals within their enclosure at the Zoological garden.

Regardless of the worthy efforts of other team member present at the scene, the attack showed deadly, leading to extreme injuries to Mr. Olawuyi.

Upon getting the stressful news, the University’s management, led by Vice-Chancellor Professor Adebayo Simeon BAMIRE, instantly stopped continuous activities to evaluate the scenario firsthand.

In spite of all medical efforts, as validated by the Acting Director of the University Health and Medical Centre, Dr. Tirimisiyu Olatunji, Mr. Olawuyi caught his injuries.
