Layoffs Hit As Amazon & MGM Consolidate

Amazon is set to get rid of numerous tasks throughout its movie and tv studio, MGM and Twitch streaming platform in an effort to control expenses.

Bloomberg reports that the Amazon-owned livestreaming platform Twitch will cut 35% of its personnel, approximately 500 staff members.

Soon after that was exposed, The Wrap reports that numerous staff members are being laid off in the business’s Prime Video and studios organization. Those layoffs were revealed in an e-mail to staffers Wednesday.

Those layoffs are apparently part of a strategy to combine Amazon Studios and MGM’s theatrical circulation following Amazon closing its $8.5 billion acquisition of MGM back in 2022.

The layoffs come as the banner is set to present advertisements on Prime Video to change the present ad-free tier, together with including a more costly ad-free membership tier.

All of it follows on from Amazon in 2015 cutting more than 27,000 tasks as part of a rush of layoffs in the U.S. tech sector. Facebook, Google and Microsoft likewise laid off over 10,000 each.
