Jose Peseiro: Algeria Eyes Super Eagle’s Coach as Next Manager

Jose Peseiro has caught the eye of the Algeria Football Federation as their potential next national team manager.

This interest comes in the wake of Djamel Belmadi’s recent departure, following Algeria’s underwhelming performance at the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

Under Peseiro’s guidance, Nigeria’s Super Eagles team reached the final of the 34th edition of the AFCON, only to narrowly lose 2-1 to Ivory Coast, the host nation.

This achievement stands in stark contrast to Algeria’s struggle to advance beyond the group stages under Belmadi.

As Jose Peseiro’s current contract with Nigeria is drawing to a close by the end of this month, the decision on his future remains pending.

Meanwhile, an Algerian publication, DZ Foot, reports that the president of the Algerian football federation, Walid Sadi, has taken a keen interest in Jose Peseiro.

Sadi is reportedly ready to discuss the possibility of him taking over the reins of the Algerian national team.

The search committee of the FAF, after thorough deliberation, has shortlisted three candidates: Jose Peseiro, Vladimir Petkovic, and Carlos Queiroz.

According to DZ Foot;

Not made public, the shortlist established by the ad-hoc commission set up by the FAF, is made up of three names, namely José Peseiro (63 years old), Vladimir Petkovic (60 years old) and Carlos Queiroz (70 years old).

Despite earlier speculation favoring Carlos Queiroz, recent insights suggest a shift in preference towards Peseiro.

Walid Sadi finds Peseiro’s achievements with Nigeria, coupled with his coaching philosophy and financial considerations, particularly compelling.

This makes Jose Peseiro the frontrunner for the role, signaling a new direction for Algerian football as they seek to reclaim their place on the continental stage.
