Here’s where to celebrate New Year’s Eve in Ottawa

From a comedy variety show to a Scottish-style Ceilidh, there’s no shortage of fun events to ring in 2024 in Ottawa.

10:30 a.m. until 12 p.m.

For those of us with a reasonable bedtime, get a jump-start on 2024 and ring in the new year at noon. Hosted by Stonehaven Church, this family-friendly countdown to the new year includes pancakes, sausages, and breakfast fixings, as well as activities for kids.

Annual New Year’s Eve Comedy Night

Shenkman Arts Centre, 245 Centrum Blvd.

Laugh in the new year with top Canadian comedians Rob Pue, Jenn Labelle and Leonard Chan will take the stage starting at 9 p.m. The trio have comedy accolades from Comedy Central, Ottawa Yuk Yuk’s Winter Wish competition and more.

Small Fish: New Year’s Eve at the Mayfair

1074 Bank St.

7:30 p.m. until 10 p.m.

This variety bash will feature sketch comedy, standup, improv music and more from top local talent, including a drag performance by Mx. Caligula, musical improv from The Velvet Duke and music performance by the February Hate Club. Typically a sold-out show, Small Fish is a regular platform that showcases talent from diverse performers across the city.

New Year’s Eve Hogman-Eh!

Lansdowne Park, 1000 Exhibition Way

5 p.m. until 1 a.m.

Presented by the Scottish Society of Ottawa, the New Year’s Eve Hogmanay celebration is heralded as the largest of its kind outside of Scotland. The evening begins with a family-friendly Great Scot party, including clan research,  Ceilidh music, and Celtic entertainment, and a children’s parade and balloon drop at 7 p.m. Then there will be Scotting food and drinks, VIP seating and performances by Celtic bands, concluding with a rendition of Auld Lang Syne at midnight.

Free rides on OC Transpo

Wherever you celebrate New Year’s Eve you can get home safely thanks to free OC Transpo trips after 6 p.m. on Dec. 31.

The O-Train’s Line 1 will run until 2 a.m., and Line 2 bus service will run until 1 a.m. Para Transpo service will also be available until 3 a.m.

Additional trips will be added on busy bus routes. Fare gates will be open, and OC Transpo will have staff at some stations to help customers.
