First US moon lander in decades launches

The Vulcan Centaur rocket carrying NASA’s Peregrine 1 lunar lander has successfully lifted off in Florida.

It is the first US mission to the moon in 50 years.

If the mission is successful it will be the first time an American spacecraft will have landed on the Moon’s surface since the Apollo missions.

It is expected to reach the moon at the end of February.

The Vulcan Centaur rocket blasted off at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida at 2:18am Monday (local time).
