FDA shutdown looms; webinar today explores different FDA scenarios

— COMMENTARY–

By Steven Grossman, executive director of the Alliance for a Stronger FDA

On Sept. 29, 2023, I dropped off to sleep– specific that the federal government would shutdown at midnight the next day. The hazard was genuine. The Alliance for a Stronger FDA had actually currently distributed a shutdown toolkit for FDA stakeholders.

We evaded a shutdown then and once again on Nov. 19 and on Jan. 19. The existing Continuing Resolution goes out at midnight on March 1. As soon as once again, a shutdown is a possibility.

What occurs today is both unpredictable and substantial. Here are 5 things to understand:

  • Time is going out.
  • There is no course to conclusion that is not overloaded by apparently unsolvable political and procedural issues.
  • A shutdown (of unidentified period) is possible.
  • FDA still deals with a variety of results from a modest boost to a terrible cut.
  • Major action on FY 25 is not likely before the Fall 2024 election.

All of this will be talked about in higher information today (Feb. 28) at 2 p.m. EDT at an Alliance webinar on “FDA Funding and the Appropriations Process.” Register here

The Alliance webinar will explain FDA’s several sources of profits, discuss how the FDA’s spending plan is created, and analyze the endgame for 2024 appropriations and the rollout of the 2025 budget plan demand.

Specific to be gone over throughout the webinar will be the capacity for a shutdown and what occurs at FDA if one takes place.

We hope you can join us for this spending plan and shutdown conversation.
