Story highlights

Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 21 in connection with the excise policy case.

The Delhi High Court denied an urgent listing of the plea filed by AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal challenging his arrest and custody in the excise policy case on Saturday (Mar 23).

The Delhi chief minister’s counsel had made a mention of an urgent listing.

The matter will be listed on the court’s reopening on Wednesday (Mar 27), confirmed the Registrar General of the Delhi High Court.

Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 21 in connection with the excise policy case.

As per his legal team, the AAP chief’s plea in Delhi HC made a mention of how the arrest and the remand order were ‘illegal’ and that he was entitled to be released from custody immediately.

Kejriwal placed in 7-day probe agency custody

Kejriwal was on Friday remanded to the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) custody for seven days, until March 28.

Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court issued the order shortly after the Delhi CM withdrew his Supreme Court plea challenging his arrest in the alleged liquor policy scam case.

The central probe agency had requested custody of Kejriwal for 10 days, citing the need to complete its investigation and confront him with others arrested in the case.

Agency’s accusations against Kejriwal

During Friday’s hearing, the ED called Arvind Kejriwal the “kingpin” and “key conspirator” in the alleged scam.

Additionally, it referred to him as the “middleman” between the ‘south group’ and others accused, including former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, who was arrested last year.

The agency claimed that the total proceeds of the scam exceeded Rs 600 crore ($73mn), including Rs 100 crore ($12mn) allegedly paid by the ‘south group’, which reportedly includes Bharat Rashtra Samithi leader K Kavitha, arrested last week.
