Carte Blanche: Psychiatric healthcare in shambles – WATCH

Sunday, 7 April’s episode of Carte Blanche is investigating the situation at a mental health hospital located in Kimberley.

Initially envisioned as a state-of-the-art facility, it was expected to address the pressing mental health needs in the Northern Cape region.

However, three years post-completion, insiders reveal that the quality of mental health services within the hospital hasn’t seen any improvements.

Reports indicate months of power outages, presence of snakes, ceiling leaks, and questionable expenditures such as the purchase of a golf cart at a significantly inflated price using taxpayers’ money.

It is appalling that individuals are forced to endure such dismal conditions, and patients are subjected to substandard facilities.

The Kimberley Mental Health Hospital’s decline has been evident since its inauguration.

Carte Blanche first aired in 1988

Carte Blanche is a South African investigative journalism television series that airs on M-Net every Sunday at 19:00.

Its first episode aired on 21 August 1988 and over the last 34-plus years has earned credibility among South African viewers for its investigation into corruption, consumer issues, and current events.
