March 2 (UPI)– The British bulk provider M/V Rubymar, paralyzed by fire from Houthi rebels last month, sank in worldwide waters in the Red Sea on Saturday, Yemeni federal government authorities revealed.
The ship’s sinking “will trigger an ecological disaster” impacting Yemen’s territorial waters and the Red Sea, Yemen’s advertisement hoc Crisis Management Cell stated in a declaration reported by Turkey’s Anadolu Agency.
The vessel was bring 41,000 lots of fertilizer, and its sinking raises worsens what the U.S. Central Command called an ecological catastrophe triggered by the “unprovoked and careless attack by Iran-backed Houthi terrorists.”
The ship was assaulted in a rocket strike released by Houthi militants on Feb. 18, which triggered a big oil slick and issues that its freight of fertilizer would produce a disaster.
The Rubymar handled water following the attack and was waiting for a tow to the Saudi Arabian port of Jeddah before sinking over night. Its team had actually deserted the ship following the rocket attack.
The Houthi militants are based in Yemen and are targeting freight ships owned or run by Israeli companies or that are bring materials to or from Israel in the Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea because the beginning of the war in Gaza
