ASNL tips off in Tacarigua

The Courts All Sectors Netball League (ASNL) returns today at the Eastern Regional Indoor Sports Arena, Tacarigua, from 3pm with the usual opening ceremony, including the March Past of the teams to the music of the Fire Service Band.

Spectators will witness the opening day Knock Out competition in the Premiership, the Championship, and the Alternative Divisions.

This year, the league comprises 21 teams participating in the competitions; four in the Premiership Division, nine in the Championship, and eight in the Alternative.

The teams in the Premiership are Defence Force, Metal Industries Co. (MIC Tigers), Police and the University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT).

Notably absent from this division is the Fire Service team which did not register.

The Championship category is made of Bermudez United, Defence Force, Police Netball Youth Club (PNYC), Police, San Juan Jabloteh, MIC Tigers, TT Post, the Unit Trust Corporation (UTC Sparks) and the University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT).

In the Alternative comprises Defence Force, Fire Youth, Police Netball Youth Club, Police, TT Post, The University of the Southern Caribbean (USC), UTC Sparks and The University of the West Indies (UWI).

This year, men will be accommodated in the Courts Open Knock Out only.

A maximum of two male players will be allowed on court at any time.

The league’s competitions remain the same, including the Fast 5 tournament. Major knockout competitions include the Jean Pierre Challenge trophy and the Steve Sarjeant Challenge trophy.

Both Pierre and Sarjeant were two of the six founding members of the league in 1991.
