Almost 50 individuals wore Victorian-era hats and extended their pinky fingers on Saturday to take pleasure in a “cuppa tea” at Essex’s historical train station.

It marked the return of the Essex Tea Party, creation of the Arts Culture and Tourism Committee, following its beginning simply prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It’s actually that gathering where we wish to invite individuals into our town and state ‘Come have tea with us, have a look at our shops later on, and take pleasure in Essex,'” stated Essex Mayor Sherry Bondy, who was charged with serving peppermint tea and scones to visitors.

Essex MP Chris Lewis, Deputy Mayor Rob Shepley, and councillors Katie McGuire-Blais and Kim Verbeek were likewise on hand, serving delicious finger foods. The homemade bites were prepared by councillor Rodney Hammond.

“People wish to go out once again,” stated Bondy, “and with the huge waitlist it reveals that there is a great deal of assistance for occasions like this.”

Cynthia Cakebread, the town’s supervisor of entertainment and culture, stated the occasion got a “substantial reaction” with more than 60 individuals on the waitlist.

“We understood there was interest,” stated Cakebread, “however we had no concept there was this much interest.”

She stated the committee might think about moving the occasion to a bigger location next year.

“This train station is a gem in our town,” stated Bondy. “It’s something that we wish to display and its something we do not have the chance to display enough.

“We wish to commemorate our heritage centres in the town, and this is one method we can do it.”

All funds raised return into the Arts Culture and Tourism Committee spending plan.
