Bafana Bafana’s Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) dreams were dashed by Nigeria, who continued their dominance over South Africa by winning their semi-final clash on Wednesday evening.

The Super Eagles were among the teams that gave Bafana a rude awakening when they were readmitted to international football. Nigeria thumped Bafana 4-0 in earlier matches in 1992, setting the tone for what would be a one-sided and dominant record by the West African giants.

Their 4-2 win over South Africa in penalties at Stade de la Paix, after the match ended 1-1 after extra-time, in Bouake on Wednesday night took Nigeria to the final of the 2023 Afcon and continued their 100% record against Bafana in this competition. The victory made it four wins out of four at the biennial showpiece for Nigeria in their meetings with their South African counterparts.
