After the death of Namibian President Hage Geingob in the early hours of Sunday, his deputy, Nangolo Mbumba, was sworn in as the new head of state.
Mbumba, 82, appointed former deputy prime minister Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, 71, as his vice-president, making her the first female vice-president of Namibia.
Mbumba, the fourth president since Namibia’s independence, will take charge until November, when the country is set to hold its general election.
