You’ve most likely seen the stories about the UN Agency which supposedly had among its workers Hamas operatives who straight took part in the October 7th massacres in southern Israel. The story is both more and less than it appears. The background assists brighten this along with much of what we’ve seen over the last 3 months.

United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) was established in 1949 to administer refugee camps for the numerous countless Palestinians who had either got away the battling or were eliminated by the Israeli armed force throughout both stages of the Israeli War of Independence, what Palestinians call The Nakba. (Most of this taken place throughout the very first stage of the war.) There were camps in Gaza, the West Bank, Lebanon, Syria and Jordan. Those camps are still there 75 years later on. “Camps” is a misnomer. Gradually irreversible structures changed momentary structures and camping tents. Schools, health centers, civic structures and services matured. They are more like towns, or districts of towns. The huge bulk of homeowners of the camps are 3rd and 4th generation descendants of the initial refugees of 1947-48. Under UNRWA’s structure they are likewise refugees. UNRWA still plays a main function administering these neighborhoods– running schools, healthcare facilities, numerous civil services.
