An Aussie footy star and his wife have revealed the heartbreaking news their third child was stillborn.

7News reports Melbourne Demons premiership player Tom McDonald and his wife Ruby, who already have daughter Bella and son Leo together, shared the tragic news on social media this week.

“At 11:55pm on Sunday night, 21st of January our gorgeous Goldie Joan McDonald was born sleeping and became our angel above,” they wrote.

“Watching over us and her siblings until we meet again in wonderland.

“We are truly heartbroken to have lost our baby girl at 20 weeks, but know that she will be forever and always with us all.

“Thank you to everyone who has and continues to support our family, we will never be able to thank you enough for your kindness, love and care.

“Please be patient with us as we navigate life without our Goldie girl in our arms.”

Yahoo Sport reports other members of the AFL community have shown their support for the family in the wake of the news.

McDonald’s former captain at the Demons, Nathan Jones, wrote: “Thinking of you guys and sending you all the love and strength.”

His teammate Christian Petracca posted three love heart emojis, as did another teammate’s wife.

Former AFL player Nick O’Brien, who played with the Essendon Bombers, wrote: “Really heartbroken for you both and your family to hear this, our family are thinking of you and your gorgeous Goldie.”

Fans also sent well-wishes, with one saying: “Sending our love to you and Tom, Ruby, wonderful people and parents.”

“Very sorry to hear this,” another fan wrote. “My thoughts and prayers are with you guys.”

Tom McDonald has played 210 games for the Melbourne Demons since his debut in 2011, and was a key part of their drought-breaking premiership in 2021.
