Regina Pats captain Tanner Howe was one of 14 WHL players chosen for the CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game on Jan. 24 in Moncton.

Howe, an 18-year-old left wing from Prince Albert, leads the Pats with 39 points on 20 goals and 19 assists.

The top 40 draft-eligible players for 2024 were chosen by NHL Central Scouting from Canada’s three major junior leagues. They will be divided into two squads for the 28th edition of the showcase.

Prince Albert Raiders right wing Ryder Ritchie, who is from Kelowna, was also selected. The other Saskatchewan product named to the team was Saskatoon’s Berkly Catton, who plays for the WHL’s Spokane Chiefs.

Kade Stringer scored the only goal in four shootout rounds to give the Swift Current Legionnaires a 3-2 victory over the visiting Regina Pat Canadians in a SMAAAHL first-place showdown Tuesday.

Swift Current improved to 18-5-3, giving the league-leading Legionnaires a two-point lead over the second-place Pat Canadians (18-7-1).

Swift Current took 1-0 and 2-1 leads on goals by Connor Rieger and Parker Rondeau. Steven Steranka and Casey Brown replied for Regina. The teams were tied 1-1 and 2-2 by periods before a scoreless third stanza.

Regina goalie Taylor Tabashniuk made 31 saves while Swift Current’s Berney Weston stopped 41 shots.

The Pat Canadians visit the Estevan Bears on Friday before a holiday break in their Saskatchewan Male U-18 AAA Hockey League schedule.
