Check out this fantastic deal on a popular gaming handheld. Best Buy is currently offering the ASUS ROG Ally Z1 gaming handheld for only $399.99 shipped. That’s a pretty massive $200 (33%) price drop from its original $600 MSRP. That brings the price of Ally down to the same as the least expensive Steam Deck.

The ASUS ROG Ally is a direct competitor to the other popular PC gaming handheld, the Steam Deck. Although their purpose might be the same, they’re actually very different units. This is the model with the lower-end AMD Z1 processor, not the Z1 Extreme. Unfortunately, the Z1 processor is not as powerful as the Steam Deck, so it loses a few frames in equivalent games. On a positive note, the ROG Ally Z1 does boast a 7″ display with a higher resolution (1080p vs 720p) and faster refresh rate (120Hz vs 60Hz) than the Steam Deck. Note that the $399 Steam Deck model does not have an OLED display. The ROG Ally also has double the storage space (512GB vs 256GB) with room for Micro SDXC expansion.

The software couldn’t be more different as well. Whereas the Deck runs off a Linux-based Steam OS, the ROG Ally uses the tried and true Windows 11. The benefit is that the ROG Ally is compatible with pretty much any Windows-based game launcher, including Steam, Battle.net, Xbox Games Pass, Epic Games Store, GOG, Ubisoft Connect, and more. Obviously that makes it more attractive to gamers who like to play games that aren’t available on Steam, like Diablo 4, Fortnite, Genshin Impact, Forza Horizon 5, and the list goes on.
