CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu government’s department of arts and culture has invited applications from senior artists in painting and sculpture, both in traditional art and modern art, for the
Kalai Chemmal awards
.
According to a press release, six artists would be selected for the
Kalai Chemmal
awards every year. The
award
consists of a cash award of Rs 1 lakh.
Artists above the age of 50 years can apply for the awards. Individual artists can apply. Also, cultural organisations, government departments and individuals can recommend qualified artists for the awards.
Applicants should attach photographs of their art forms taken in different periods along with the application in A4 size colour. They should also attach copies of news items about the artists in magazines along with their certificates. Details of any previous awards also need to be attached. It should have a complete profile of the
artist
along with a photograph.
Applications should be sent to the commissioner, department of art and culture, Tamil development department, second floor, Tamil Salai, Egmore, Chennai, 600008 on or before Jan 20.
