The trial of Vioolsdrift farmer Japie Claassens will continue on 12 January in the Springbok Magistrate’s Court after it was postponed for a third time on 19 December without being called, National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Mojalefa Senokoatsane has told Netwerk24.

Claassens allegedly shot two of his friends who were visiting him at his house in Vioolsdrift, in the Northern Cape, on 30 October. The men – Coenie de Beer, 54, an attorney from Knysna, and James Kriel, 56, owner of Tierfontein Rondawel near Baardskeerdersbos – later succumbed to their injuries at a hospital in Upington.

Claassens was expected to bring an application to adjust his bail conditions to allow him to stay with his brother in Rooi Els because he is seeing a psychologist in Cape Town.
