Vicario 2nd: Ange Postecoglou’s 7 Tottenham Hotspur Signings, Ranked

Ange Postecoglou has done a fantastic job at the helm of Tottenham Hotspur.

The Aussie manager has reignited the feel-good factor at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and has seriously got his squad ticking in the Premier League.

They owe a lot of this to some of the names that have been tearing North London up for years, such as Son Heung-Min and Cristian Romero – but most simply has to be put down to the new acquisitions.

They’ve been simply sensational. So, with this – here are Ange Postecoglou‘s seven Tottenham Hotspur signings, ranked from worst to best. It’s worth noting, that although Dejan Kulusevski and Pedro Porro are technically Postecoglou signings, we’re excluding them as they played for the club under Antonio Conte.

7 – Ashley Phillips

At number seven, we have the English youngster Ashley Phillips.

The 18-year-old signed a five-year contract and became Postecoglou’s fourth acquisition of the summer transfer window. He came from Blackburn Rovers for £2m.

Phillips since hasn’t played for the first-team squad but has been featuring for Tottenham’s academy sides. He was always purchased as one for the future.

6 – Alejo Veliz

Tottenham Hotspur overcame Nottingham Forest, Wolves and two Serie A sides to sign Alejo Veliz this summer, with the Argentine forward, like Phillips, one for the future.

He’s featured for the first team numerous times, coming off the bench against the likes of Liverpool and Fulham.

The Argentine has shown glimpses of real danger. It’s no wonder he was a wanted man in the summer.

5 – Manor Soloman

Manor Soloman is a somewhat forgettable signing for Ange Postecoglou.

The Israeli winger joined on a free transfer after a spell at Fulham in which he scored five goals in 24 games last season. He’s featured six times so far off the bench in the Premier League, before sustaining an injury which will leave him out until February 2024.

For a free transfer, not bad at all. It’ll be interesting to see how he does when he gets back.

4 – Brennan Johnson

Brennan Johnson comes in at fourth. Tottenham signed Johnson from Nottingham Forest in a £47.5m deal on Deadline Day – making him Postecoglou’s final signing of the window.

The 22-year-old was one of the Premier League’s most exciting players at Forest, which is why Tottenham paid a premium for his services.

So far, he hasn’t exactly hit the ground running – but he’s shown glimpses of his brilliance. However, the best is yet to come for the Welshman.

3 – Micky van de Ven

A man that may have been higher if he hadn’t sustained an injury, is Micky van de Ven.

The towering Dutchman is an absolute enigma of a centre-half. 6’3 and lightning quick, he was absolutely made to be a Premier League defender.

He was a huge catalyst for Tottenham’s unbeaten start to the season – and they’re severely missing him now.

2 – Guglielmo Vicario

Filling Hugo Lloris‘ boots at Hotspur Way was always going to be a tough task, that Guglielmo Vicario was up to – and then some.

The Italian arrived from Empoli in a deal worth an initial £17.2m, which he’s already paid back ten-fold. He’s arguably been the best keeper in the Premier League this season.

It’s madness to think Tottenham were unchallenged in the signing of the 27-year-old. An inspired pickup.

1 – James Maddison

But not as inspired as number one, who despite his injuries, simply has to claim the top spot.

James Maddison when fit has potentially been the best player in the Premier League this season, and was an integral part of Tottenham’s early success.

The England midfielder arrived from related Leicester City and has settled in instantaneously, netting three times and obtaining five assists. He is currently nursing an injury but is well on the mend.

He is Ange Postecoglou’s best signing as Tottenham Hotspur manager so far.
