Fire in Tampines Mall leads to evacuation, Singapore News

SINGAPORE – Shoppers were asked to leave Tampines Mall at around 9.30 pm on Dec 27, following a fire in among its shops on the 4th flooring.

The atrium within the shopping center was observed to be hazy in videos published on Facebook.

The shopping center’s alarm sounded at around the exact same time. Amongst those required to leave the shopping center was buyer Larry Hoo, 34, who informed The Straits Times he saw smoke coming out from X-Craft, a street style shop.

Mr Hoo was on the shopping mall’s 4th flooring– the exact same level X-Craft is on– when he was made to leave by the shopping center’s guard.

Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) officers were seen standing outdoors X-Craft in a video shown ST. A shopping center staff member was observed obstructing access to the 4th flooring and asking consumers to leave. She decreased to validate if the fire stemmed from X-Craft.

At around 9.45 pm, ST observed 2 SCDF cars leaving the area of the shopping mall.

At around 9.50 pm, consumers were observed heading back to the shopping center and store staff members were seen going back to their shops.

In action to inquiries from ST, the SCDF stated it looked out to a fire at the shopping mall at about 9.20 pm on Dec 27.

It included that the fire included an electrical socket and wires in a system on the 4th flooring.

“Members of the general public snuffed out the fire utilizing 2 dry powder fire extinguishers prior to SCDF’s arrival at the shopping center,” the representative stated.

There were no reported injuries in the occurrence. SCDF stated the reason for the fire is under examination.
