The first EV with a lithium-free sodium battery hits the road in January

Yiwei is a brand-new brand name in 2023 for JAC. The Yiwei EV seems a rebranded variation of the Sehol E10X hatchback (above), revealed previously this year. When JAC exposed the Yiwei brand name in May, it stated it would drop the Sehol label and rebrand all its cars to either JAC or Yiwei, leading us to today’s EV expose. JAC hasn’t yet stated whether the Yiwei-branded design will keep the E10X name.

In April, JAC showcased a different EV called the Yiwei 3 at the Shanghai Auto Show. That design released in June with an LFP lithium battery, assuring the sodium-ion version would introduce later on.

The brand-new Yiwei EV apparently utilizes round sodium-ion cells from HiNA Battery. JAC puts together the batteries in the business’s modular UE (Unitized Encapsulation) honeycomb structure, comparable to CATL’s CTP (cell-to-pack) and BYD’s Blade.
